Apple and Sausage Stuffing

This flavorful sausage and apple stuffing is a favorite comfort food and a must for Thanksgiving feasts. No matter if you like crispy edges or the fluffy moist middle - this dressing will be sure to please.
Ingredients
- 4 tbsp Sutter Buttes Butter Olive Oil
- 1 lb bulk pork sausage, mild or spicy
- 1 cup diced celery
- 1 cup diced onion
- 1 cup diced peeled, cored apple
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tbs fresh sage, minced
- 1 bay leaf
- 8 cups dried French bread and/or cornbread, dried and cut into 1" cubes
- 1 1/2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
Directions
- Heat oil in large, heavy skillet over medium heat.
- Add sausage; saute until cooked through and browned, breaking into pieces with spoon, about 8 minutes. Using slotted spoon, transfer sausage to large bowl.
- Add celery, celery, onion, apple, garlic, sage, and bay leaf into drippings in skillet. Saute over medium heat until vegetables are soft, about 5 minutes. Discard bay leaf.
- Add mixture to sausage.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Oil 13x9x2-inch baking dish.
- Add bread to sausage mixture, wish broth and Butter Olive Oil together, mix into stuffing, add salt and pepper to taste.
- Transfer stuffing to oiled baking dish. Bake uncovered until cooked through and brown on top, about 50 minutes.
